Many deaths caused by child abuse or neglect are not counted in state or national statistics due to narrow definitions or inconsistent classifications. Information about how and why children died is scattered across various sources – media articles, state-released fatality reports, death reviews from other entities – often with no names attached. Lives Cut Short compiles information from all publicly available sources. Use the filters below to review information gathered to date for some of the children who have died of abuse or neglect since 2022. For those children whose names are already a part of the public record, we report that information in full. Learn more about our data and methods.
